The 1/35 scale model:

Most accessories which can be used to build dioramas are at the 1/35ème scale, as is this Jeep that will be of an excellent aspect next to US aircrafts. This is not a major problem as the difference of scale with 1/32 subjects is not that significant.

Constructing dioramas or reusable display bases is an interesting aspect of scale modelling. The objective is to present scale models in a more realistic environment and to let the audience have a better feel of what the aircraft looked like in situation and to add figures and other equipments to scale so that a better sense of the size of the objects displayed be easily grasped. Of course an ambiance can also be created especially when photos are taken.

Therefore I was interested in building a set of components that could be mixed together to create different situations and atmospheres by switching display bases, background sceneries and skies, adding or removing tracks to different scales (e.g. 1/48 and 1/32 at least) and putting additional equipment or personnel in place including vehicles, oil or water drums, Jerri cans, etc.

Furthermore I wanted to use some rubbish material and recycle it to limit the expenses. Exploring my garage enable me to reuse an old mirror that will later be put in place as a small pond and various plastic boards, resistant and thin, that were originally melamine covers to old furniture doors that had been set aside. These resin covers were cut in lanes with a big electric disc cutting machine (i.e. big 10 kg Metabo) in two tracks to be later painted as tarmac. Boards of plywood had to be purchased and therefore I had them cut by the shop at the proper dimensions so that I would easily make them fit my design.
