La maquette au 1/32 :
L’appareil représenté est un A6M5 qui appartient au 653rd
Fighter Group, dépendant de la
Préfecture d’Oita en 1944 (Oita-ken est situé au Sud-Est du
Japon, sur l’ile de Kyushu). La construction de cette maquette exceptionnelle
est décrite dans un album Facebook. La construction s’est faite sans difficulté
majeure, l’ajout des détails fournis par le kit additionnel Eduard n°32 066
demandant pas mal de patience mais permettant d’obtenir un moteur tout à fait remarquable.
Pour être plus efficace, j’ai passé l’automne 2010 a construire 3 avions
Japonais en même temps, mutualisant les teintes et les masques des marques
tactiques.

L’avion :
Le Mitsubishi A6M était un chasseur bombardier embarqué léger utilisé par la Marine impériale japonaise de 1940 à 1945. Alors que le nom de code officiel utilisé du côté allié pour cet avion était Zeke, il était mieux connu sous le nom de Zero à cause de sa désignation dans la Marine impériale japonaise, chasseur embarqué de type 0, c'est-à-dire Rei shiki Kanjo sentoki officiellement abrégé en Rei-sen du côté japonais. Ses caractéristiques étaient les suivantes :

The
aircraft represented is a Mitsubishi A6M5 (Zero) belonging to the 653rd Fighter
Group, Oita Prefecture
(Oita-ken is located South East Japan, Island of Kyushu),
in 1944. The Kit Tamiya ©2007 n°60318 to which I added the Eduard n°32 066
detail set enable the scale modeller to built a fantastic replica of this well
known plane. Of special interest is the engine and its rear compartment which
can be constructed and detailed exactly as per the original aircraft.

The
Mitsubishi A6M Zero was a long-range fighter aircraft operated by the Imperial
Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) from 1940 to 1945. The A6M was designated as
the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 Carrier Fighter (rei-shiki-kanjou-sentouki), and
also designated as the Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen and Mitsubishi Navy 12-shi
Carrier Fighter. The A6M was usually referred to by the Allies as the
"Zero", from the 'Navy Type 0 Carrier Fighter' designation. The
official Allied reporting name was Zeke. When it was introduced early in World
War II, the Zero was considered the most capable carrier-based fighter in the
world, combining excellent manoeuvrability and very long range. In early combat
operations, the Zero gained a legendary reputation as a dogfighter, achieving
the outstanding kill ratio of 12 to but by mid-1942 a combination of new
tactics and the introduction of better equipment enabled the Allied pilots to
engage the Zero on more equal terms. By 1943, inherent design weaknesses and
the increasing lack of more powerful aircraft engines meant that the Zero
became less effective against newer enemy fighters that possessed greater
firepower, armour, and speed, and approached the Zero's manoeuvrability. The
Hellcats and Corsairs described in previous sections not only put an end to the
supremacy of the Zero but made a prey of it.
